Kolari Filters - 3 month check-in
Our initial impressions blog can be found HERE.
Back in July we had the chance to get a few filters from Kolari. We were having trouble finding filters that fit our 95mm Canon RF 28-70mm lens. Kolari to the rescue. We have now been using these filters for 3 months. We have some thoughts.
First, I will say that all my initial impressions from the filters are all still the same. Color cast, lens flare, Cost/value are all very impressive. There are some big names in the filter game and one of our previous favorites was great, with one exception. I absolutely hated that I could not securely put my lens cap on the filter without it falling off. This other major brand builds really great filters but every time I put on the lens cap it would never securely fasten to the lens cap. I think it is because of a lack up lip around the ring. None the less, anytime I put my lens cap on, it would without fail pop off the camera and fall in a bag, in the car or somewhere random in a field. It is extremely frustrating because we do still use lens caps on all our lenses and we try and take the best possible care of them.
Kolari has solved this annoyance for us. All our caps instantly snap onto our filters and they lock on tight. I would not have thought that this little annoyance with another brand would bring me such joy and relief from Kolari. This isn’t something people talk about with filters and this isn’t really something you would consider when purchasing a filter but wow, hearing my cap snap on and knowing it is secure until I press the buttons together to pull off is a huge relief.
Now, let’s talk durability. We have shot weddings, portraits and tons of videos with these lenses. Since July we have probably done at least 50-60 sessions. These lenses have been in dust storms, in rain storms, through high grass in the mountains and they look as good as new. There is no scratches on the filter and outside a few smudges that we can easily clean off, they are perfect and good as new.
We have said it before, but if you are in the need of new filters for your lenses, our main go to is now Kolari. Durability, color cast, and value made us sold on them. But with the ability to put on our lens caps and have them securely attach means that we will be customers for life.
