Posing - Awkward is EPIC!

We understand, not everyone is a model with years of experience on how to pose. At best we stand in front of our mirror practicing various poses before our session and hope that the photographer can hide our double chin or make us not look so awkward. Plus, anytime we have had our pictures taken the photographer probably just told us to “go stand over there and say cheese”.

One of the things our clients tell us just after a session has started is “WOW, I have never had a photographer teach us how to pose!” At first our response is shocked. How can a photographer not teach their clients how to pose? It seems like something that comes so naturally to us that everyone must be doing it. Apparently this is not the case.

We teach our clients how to pose based off their gender, body shape, insecurities and their strengths. This starts from the moment we start getting to know them and carries on throughout the entire session. We set clear expectations from the beginning that we are not the “stand there and say cheese” photographer and we don’t want our clients to feel like this either. We have so many great poses & tips and tricks for every client that you will not only feel more confident in yourself but you will never (HOPEFULLY) take a bad picture again.

We start with the foundations of posing. We talk about feet placement up through the knees and hips. We talk about what your arms say about your mood and how your shoulders can instantly convey confidence and approachability. We talk about chin placement and how we can instantly take an insecurity most people have and turn it into a “WOW”. We talk about camera angles and how that speaks to the overall feeling in a photo. Don’t worry either, we make it fun and by the end of the session you can instantly walk, stand, sit, lay better than all your friends.

It is little things like this that honestly set a photographer apart. These days most people have a camera capable of taking professional photos. But what so many photographers before us and sadly those that come after us will skimp on is the education in the client experience. No amount of professional gear can teach you how to interact with your clients, how to build their confidence during a session, how to look for and fix areas they don’t like about themselves and how to bring out beauty in them they have never seen. Remember, when booking a photographer for your next session it is not just about the final price tag associated with the photos. Choose a photographer that cares about you, and ensuring you look your absolute best. Not sure where to start? Well, you are in the right place. If you are in the Southern Colorado area (Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Rye, Colorado City) we would love to be considered for your next session. We handle it all from weddings, to senior portraits, to family sessions to life milestone events.
