The average cost of wedding photography in Pueblo Colorado
You are getting married! First, congratulations! This is a big moment and you probably have lots of questions. One of the biggest questions related to weddings is cost. How much does a venue cost, how much is a caterer, how much do DJ’s charge and, how much are wedding photographers?
Today lets break down wedding photography costs around the Pueblo Colorado area and lets discuss how to get the most bang for your buck on your wedding day!
The range of costs - $500 to $1000 (ish) for the day
First, let’s talk about the range of what you are going to find here in the Pueblo and surrounding area. On the less expensive end you are looking around $500 - $1000 for a wedding photographer. What do you get at this price point? Usually at this price point you are getting a photographer that has dabbled in photography for a year or two. They probably started out doing family photos, senior photos and they are taking that next step into wedding photography but they are not sure what to charge yet. At this price point you can expect to have 1 photographer on your wedding day. For this price point it is hard to get two photographers considering most wedding days run 8-10 hours. Your photographer will be able to capture some of the moments throughout the day but don’t expect them to know how to manage the day. Getting the wedding party together for formals, ensuring that they capture both candied and posed photos will be a little more difficult with just one inexperienced photographer and they may not be able to handle everything a wedding day may through at them. Can they shoot in the sun and the rain? Can they handle indoor lighting and flash photography? Does their gear have the capability to record on multiple cards at once to ensure your photos don’t get lost or damaged? These are all things you should ask them to ensure you will receive images you desire on your day. Also, don’t just ask them if they can do this, but ask them to show you that they can. You will have to weigh the pros and cons to determine what is most important for you and if some of these things are ok going with a less expensive option.
$1500-$2500 (ish)
At this price point you are starting to get a photographer that is more experienced. They probably have a handful of weddings under their sleeve. They have probably shot a few venues around town and they probably have upgraded their gear to ensure it can meet the demands of a wedding day. You are probably still getting one photographer at this price range, but that is more ok because they have the ability to manage a day better. They understand how a wedding day flows and they are able to manage their time better (if the bride and groom are getting ready at the same location). They may or may not have a second shoot for part of the day at this price point but it is probably one of their friends or other photographers in the area with similar experience. They work together for the day but are probably both running their own business. This means they may or may not know how the other worlds and they may or may not get the same shots in the same style. You are be more comfortable at this price point that you will get great photos and pending something major happening you can rest assured your photographer can probably handle it.
$2500-$4000 (ish)
This is kinda the sweet spot for top tier photographers in the Pueblo and surrounding area. The photographers in this price range have had experience with several weddings, they have shot most of the venues in the area and their gear is top notch. They will be able to control the day, pose couples, pose family, and be ready regardless of what your day throughs at them. Even though photographers can charge a LOT more than this, this price point for the area is considered top notch. At this price point you can almost guarantee you will get two photographers on your day, they probably shoot together often or even work at the same studio together so they understand what their roles are for the day. One will usually stick with the bride and the other with groom and then they come together for the rest of the day or one is always available for the unexpected situations that may come up during the day. Their gear can handle the rain and they probably have a use off camera flash. They are great with the wedding party and they are confident in their ability to win everyone over and make you feel at ease.
Conclusion
When selecting your photographer and considering budget there is not right or wrong answer. It comes down to you, your budget and what risks you are potentially taking at each price point. This isn’t to say that something can’t go extremely right or extremely wrong at any price point. There are things that happen regardless of how good a photographer is and there are great photographers charging the $500 price for wedding days. You ultimately have to make the right choice for you but with the higher cost you do take less risk and get more for your dollar.
