The Magic of Sunset Sessions in Pueblo Colorado: Why Timing Matters for Perfect Photos

There is really no wrong time to take photos. Every time of the day and every season provides its own look. Do we love shooting golden hour? Yes. Do we love shooting blue hour? Absolutely. Do we love shooting mid afternoon? Ehhh, but we can and we are pretty good at it too. But if you are going for that golden hour look there is nothing that beats it.

Here are some of our tips to get the most out of your golden hour session.

  1. See when the sunsets and subtract about 30 minutes. Sunset is based off when the sun goes below the horizon line. Being in Pueblo, we have mountains to the west and that means the sun sets about 30 minutes before that for us. If you see that the sunset is at 7:30pm plan on the sun setting at 7pm so you will want to start your session based off this. Booking one hour, get a 6pm slot.

  2. Bring bug spray. They are usually most active around sunset so you want to be prepared to ward them off.

  3. Bring a light jacket. Sometimes, once the sun goes behind the mountains there is an instant shift in temperature. If the day is not super hot or it is border line on the cool side, you can expect it to get a little cooler.

  4. Plan on the session going just a little over. Golden hour is great but blue hour has its own look. Usually this is our last session of the day and we like to go a little into blue hour just for a completely different look. If you are down, so are we.
