Things you should tell your photographer even if they don’t ask.
Let’s talk about the top things we feel you should tell your photographer, even if they don’t ask you.
We love getting to know our clients. We want to know everything we can about them during their session. Their likes, their dislikes and everything in between. It helps us get an idea of who they are as humans and how we can create the perfect images for them. Here are some great things you should tell your photographer.
What you love about yourself
We ask our clients what they love about themselves. Maybe they just had a baby and how happy they are lost the baby weight. Maybe they are proud of their eyes or their hair. These are important things to know for us so we can make some of these characteristics stand out in the photos. If you love your eyes, we will position you with the right light to make them pop. If you love your hair, we will find fun ways to play with your hair or get just the right angle that it has a little pop. Let your photographer know the features you LOVE about yourself.
What you are self conscious about
Yes, we want to know this. Maybe you don’t like your jawline. Maybe you feel your arms have a little extra skin that you always notice. This is something you should 100% tell your photographer. Often times with a good photographer we can position you in a way that helps minimize something you see as a flaw. If you don’t like how one eye is slightly smaller than the other we have a trick for that. Telling your photographer the features you are self conscious about is not a bad thing. We all have insecurities about something. Letting your photographer know, helps ensure that you receive beautiful images back you will be proud of.
Your dream photo
We love asking our clients about one photo they absolutely would love to have. The one photo they want to hang in their living room or entrance way. The one they will look at every day. We do this for a reason…..So we can deliver on that image. Sure, we will get several beautiful images during their session but we work hard to get THE ONE photo to rule them all. If you have an idea or a dream photo you want, tell your photographer. You are paying a lot of money for your photos, and you deserve your dream photo to hang on your wall. Let your photographer know.
Anytime you are uncomfortable
As photographers we often times tell our customers to do things they are not comfortable with. Maybe this is a standing pose, a laying pose or a walking pose. If you truly do not like the way something looks for feels, let your photographer know. We don’t know, what we don’t know. Often times we try something new or we try a technique that works for someone else but you know will NOT work for you. Let us know. We would rather change the pose or the backdrop if you are not comfortable then wasting time on something you don’t like.
Recap
Our main point here is open conversation. Have open conversation with your photographer. Let them know everything you like and dislike about photos. Share your insecurities and your confidence. As photographers we understand everyone is different. We want to ensure that you get photos you will be proud of for years to come.
