Top locations around Pueblo for photo shoots

Pueblo Colorado is an amazing city that does not get a lot of credit. With a rich history of our steel mill, the beautiful Arkansas River and its deep culture that dates back to 1885, Pueblo is a great place for family photos, senior photos and engagement.

Here is our list of the top places around Pueblo to consider when you are considering your portrait session.

Pueblo City Park & Arkansas River

Pueblo City Park is a fantastic place to consider taking family photos. Regardless of the time of year, you are sure to get photos that are wonderful. A 30 second walk provides a beautiful stone bridge that often times our clients say “Wow, I never knew this was down here”. This bridge is a wonderful stop because you can take photos on the bridge and in several locations around it that places the bridge into a beautiful background behind your family. A quick drive to the opposite end of the park and you are greeted with a beautiful wall of trees that can be used as a backdrop to your larger group shots, wedding parties or a quick family session. The city park is also great if you have members of your family who cannot walk as well. All locations have a 1 min or less walk from the car, making this the ideal place to include grandparents.

Pueblo Nature and Raptor Center

The Nature Center is a wonderful place to take portraits, especially for larger families. Their main field is perfect for a few different angles and we are sure to fit the entire family in the shot regardless of the size. Because of its wide open space it also lends really well to smaller family or individual portrait sessions as well. There are several pathways to talk down, as well as very tall grass areas that lend extremely well for photos too. The Nature Center does have two small downsides and I would consider them very small downsides. First, they are pay to park. The cost is $5 per car which is not a big deal but if you are dealing with large families that require multiple cars, this may add up quickly. The other downside, and again a very small one is this is a hotspot for photographers so depending on the time of the day or the time of the year you choose to take your portraits we may have to wait our turn.

Anticline Lake - Pueblo Reservoir

Anticline Lake is a great spot and something we only started shooting at in the last couple years. The lake provides a great environment where kids can run and play while various shots are happening. There is a beautiful lake that provides a wonderful backdrop as well. This area is large, quiet and fairly secluded from most of the reservoir area. It almost feels like you are not even near the Southside of Pueblo and you have your own little oasis. Evenings you will surely spot some deer as they graze the area and often times we have even seen the owl that lives close by. Def add this to your list of must places to get photos done.

Downtown Pueblo | Union Depot | Neon Alley | Warehouses | Riverwalk

Our final location, which is actually 3-5 spots is the downtown Pueblo area. This consists of the Pueblo Union Depot & train yard, neon alley and the various alley’s surrounding. The Union Depot provides a great backdrop with it’s beautiful building, old fashioned cards and horse carriages. On the backside there are several abandoned train cars that provide great backdrops for small family or individual portraits. Directly across from the Union Depot is neon alley. Right around dusk each night this alley lights up with various neon signs to provide of one Pueblo’s most photography locations. These photos provide great backdrops for many sessions but their only downside is the bright reds, blues and purples are not great for skin tones. We try to only use Neon Alley if you specifically want the photos or we do it right at dusk so we still have some sunlight helping light up your skin. Next is the Historic Riverwalk. Spanning several blocks the riverwalk features many unique restaurants, shops and bridges. There is even a small waterfall along the riverwal that provides nice backdrops. Finally, the various streets, alleys and abandoned buildings around the area provide unique and interesting backdrops. The other really nice perk of this area is if you choose one for your session, we can easily walk to the other locations within a minute or two. It is like getting 3-5 locations with one.

BONUS - San Isabel

This last one is not necessarily in Pueblo but within about 40 minute drive from Pueblo and one of our favorites for fall photos. San Isabel provides an amazing backdrop. It is close enough to get too, but far enough away it feels like an adventure. Bring a lunch and some drinks, relax and get a beautiful, unique scene for your next session.

Conclusion

These are not the only places in Pueblo to take photographs, but they are among our favorites. We work hard to provide you and your family with various options when it comes to family photos. We feel each location provides enough details to really enhance your portrait session while ensuring all your needs are met. Whether you enjoy more outdoors/nature photos or appreciate history and are looking for that urban feel, we know that Pueblo has what you are looking for.
